Your legal rights

Many workers aren't aware of their legal rights and don't know that the way their boss treats them could technically be illegal. We offer a selection of online resources to help workers learn about what the law says about our legal rights.

Click here for legal briefings on discrimination and disciplinary and grievance procedures from OHP solicitors.

Click here for information on legal rights relating to dismissals, redundancy and compromise agreements from Thompsons Solicitors.

This pamphlet from the arbitration service ACAS provides details of the relevant legislation relating to workplace bullying and harassment. Their website includes several other useful legal briefings and sources of information.

This is the 'Know Your Rights' information base produced by the London Transport Region of the RMT union. While it contains some legal information, much of the information here is specific to agreements/protocols within that industry. However, it is still useful from the point of view of comparing the agreements/rights that workers in a well-unionised industry have won to other workplaces.

The TUC's Worksmart site provides an excellent overview of the basic legal rights to which workers are entitled.

This anti-bullying handbook produced by the National Union of Journalists is an excellent and comprehensive resource that includes definition, legal advice and tips for union reps on how to handle bullying in the workplace.
